"Crash" Sucks.

I'm not a film critic, so I can leave it at that without having to explain myself. I'm trying to see every oscar nominated movie this year before I throw my gay cowboy party.
So I netflixed Crash which is nominated for best picture and best director. What a waste. I seriously can't believe it's nominated for anything at all.
Before the noms were announced, people told me Crash was like Magnolia. Boy were they wrong. "If you liked Magnolia you'll like Crash" they said. Yeah right, Crash is nothing like Magnolia.
To me it was almost unwatchable, with bad, bad performances all around. Do we really need to sit through this condescending morality play about racism in L.A? Cause the movie is about racism in L.A. not America. I felt like I was in 4th grade, sitting in detention, forced to watch some public service film, teaching me the consequences of, well... whatever.
I understand the filmakers were trying to point out the wrongs of racism in our society, and how one thing you do can bite you in the ass later, but aside from that, the film is just horrible! Totally contrived and unbelievable. Magnolia was more believable to me, and that movie had raining frogs in it!

no, MAGNOLIA sucked.
I totally agree, rarely have I had such a strong reaction to a movie, I would have walked out of the theater if I had been stupid enough to pay money for this (a friend rented it). Among other things, it's heavy-handed, facile, self-satisfied,poorly directed, etc.
I could go on forever with the reasons why it will probably go down in history as the worst movie to ever win an Oscar. I have now lost whatever remaining shred of respect I had for the Academy, they are no better than Grammy voters in terms of their complete inability to recognize quality and resist hype.
I read an article in which the reviewer said that Crash might win because of a marketing blitz, white liberal guilt and the fact that some people didn't even screen Brokeback Mountain because they didn't want to watch a "gay cowboy movie." I completely agree with him, and he turned out to be right. People tried to cover up the fact that they ain't so liberal after all by voting for a movie about racism, a movie that imagines itself to be so important but that says nothing new or profound about racism or humanity.
Oh and btw, Magnolia did not suck, it was thought-provoking and compelling. Compared to Crash, it's a masterpiece of epic proportions.
